Jeanne Shaheen

Jeanne Shaheen is running for the U.S. Senate in New Hampshire against anti-abortion Republican incumbent John Sununu.

Background:
Jeanne Shaheen stepped down as Director of the Harvard University Institute of Politics to run for the United States Senate in New Hampshire. Shaheen, a long time advocate for reproductive rights, is opposing John Sununu for the second time after losing to him by four percent in 2002. Shaheen served three terms as Governor of New Hampshire from 1996 to 2002. Shaheen was elected to the State Senate in 1990 where she focused on education issues. She taught high school in New Hampshire and Mississippi and owned a small business. Shaheen worked on numerous campaigns before running for office herself. She graduated with a B.A. in English from Shippensburg University and a M.A. in Political Science.
